Diving with 15 meter big Bryde's whale off lanzarote's shores !
This year large groups of Bryde's whale and Dolphins are meeting just off the shores of Puerto del Carmen on Lanzarote.
On Friday the 9th of april we went out with our Diving boat "Morato" to see the Dolphins and Whales in their natural environment, we where very lucky as the whales seemed to stay at one spot for a longer period of time allowing us to be along these giants of the ocean and capture some amazing videos aswell.
The Bryde's whale, razorback, or common rorqual, is a marine mammal belonging to the suborder of baleen whales. It is the second largest whale and the second largest living animal after the blue whale, growing to nearly 15 - 18 meters (54 ft) long.
Long and slender, the fin whale's body is brownish-grey with a paler underside. There are at least two distinct subspecies: the Bryde's whale of the North Atlantic, and the larger Antarctic fin whale of the Southern Ocean. It is found in all the world's major oceans, from polar to tropical waters. It is absent only from waters close to the ice pack at both the north and south poles and relatively small areas of water away from the open ocean. The highest population density occurs in temperate and cool waters. Its food consists of small schooling fish, squid, and crustaceans including mysids and krill.
That was our short information on Bryde's whale.
We hope that you enjoy the video!

Shipwreck found from Nautic Dive !
The finding=
A couple of days ago, we had a unusual signal showing up on our echo sounder.
It was clear that we had found a large object in 70 – 85 Meters depth that was worth a further investigation. On Friday the 26 of February 2010 the Nautic Dive team (Detlev K. – Frank W and Matthias B.) started their expedition leaving the Puerto Calero harbour and heading towards the suspected wreck. The 90 minute trip to our destination went like a breeze as we prepared our equipment and carried out the pre-dive safety checks. When we arrived at the destination, we decided to anchor at the highest point showing on the echo sounder which at this point was showing an elevated area of 20 metres leaving us very excited and wondering what we might expect.
The Dive=
With a light mixture of Trimix and 2 stage bottles for the decompression stops on me, I (Matthias B.) started to descend along the anchor line as planned, after approximately 3 minutes of descending I could see the ship wreck and I started to get Goosebumps. There where enormous amounts of barracudas and goldmakrels surrounding the wreck as well as thousands of baitfish and black corals that are growing on the wreck.
As we expected through our echo sounders measurements the ship wreck is approximately 20 metres wide, around 100 metres long and is broken up into 3 pieces where the majority of the middle of the ship including its bridge is in very good condition.
The wreck is sadly out of bounds for the sport diver due to the depth of the ship and the safety issues involved and of course safety should always be the main priority!
For the Trimix divers and trimix beginners we will, in the next couple of days anchor a main support line to the wreck allowing a safe descend and ascend from the wreck.
Conclusion=
As far as I could see, the wreck seems to be untouched and has not been dived to before, this makes it ever the more interesting for us and whoever wants to join us in finding out what caused the ship to sink and what its origins are as well as its name.
Acknowledgements=
I would like to thank my team Detlev K. and Frank W. for the professional support I have received on our Diving Boat “Morato” having a safe, happy and healthy ascend from the depth.
